  • Vacancy Announcement for Environmental Health Sanitarian

    Sanitarians work under the supervision of the Environmental Health Director and perform the on-site inspections at commercial, residential, or public locations in the district to determine conformity with federal, state and county sanitation and environmental health laws to safeguard the public health.  They also provide consultation to the general public on environmental health and sanitation issues.  Sanitarians are required to maintain records of activities and prepare related reports.  The successful applicant will be focused on supporting the Type II, Non-Community Water Program for the tri-county agency.  The position requires the maintenance of all records correlated to the Type II water supplies including but not limited to:  water sample results, start-up sampling, water supply treatment, water sample frequency monitoring, water system surveys and all EGLE program documentation requirements.  Other duties within environmental health may also be assigned to this sanitarian.

    Employment Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental health or related field is required. 

    Experience & Required Skills:

  • Must be able to work independently as well as with other staff and clients.
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary to effectively communicate with the Director and the public.
  • Computer skills necessary to effectively utilize word processing, spreadsheet, and EH software systems.
  • Ability to handle simultaneous projects requiring concentration and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal with difficult people in a firm but professional manner.

Special Requirement: Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and reliable transportation, as work-related travel is required. 

Salary and Fringe Benefits:
