Allegan County Health Department, located in Southwest Michigan, has an opening for a full time Sanitarian/ Environmental Health Specialist or Registered Sanitarian/ Registered Environmental Health Specialist

Starting Wage: 

Sanitarian: $24.30 per hour, full-time with benefits. 

Registered Sanitarian: $26.13 per hour, full-time with benefits

Candidate responsibilities: Inspects and issues permits for commercial, residential, and public locations in the county to enforce federal, state, and county sanitation and environmental health laws to safeguard the public health with regards to on-site water supplies, on-site sewage disposal systems, Soil erosion and Sedimentation Control and many additional programs. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health or related field required. 
  • Registered Environmental Health Sanitarian (REHS) or Registered Sanitarian (RS) preferred. 
  • Must pass the exam for permitting and inspection of facilities related to Part 91 Rules of the National Resource Environmental Protection Act (NRPA) as it relates to Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) at residential and commercial sites. 
  • Possession of a valid Michigan Driver's License.
