Southwest Michigan Environmental Health Association (SWMEHA)

The Southwest Michigan Environmental Health Association (formerly SSS) is an organization of public health and environmental health professionals with the following mission:  “To foster, promote, and attain high standards in the environmental health profession; to enlighten and challenge professionals in the field of environmental health with on-going educational seminars that will directly or indirectly aid in servicing the environmental health industry and general public; to extend cooperation and work in joint enterprises with the Michigan Environmental Health Association (MEHA) and other pertinent organizations with similar objectives; to take an active leadership role in the resolution of issues, interchange of thought, opinion and philosophy, and to give identity and voice to the environmental health professional throughout the southwest region of the great state of Michigan.”

A board of directors consisting of 7 members made of sanitarians and industry members steer the organization to meet the SWMEHA mission.  Each spring and fall, the SWMEHA hosts an educational seminar that provides participants with a forum for the exchange of information, discussion, and study of environmental health issues. Seminars are well attended because members provide input on the speakers and topics that they want to hear, as well as the opportunity to network with colleagues and friends.

Membership is open and informal.  Any active, emeritus, associate, student, honorary, or sustaining member of MEHA and/or any past or present seminar registrant of SWMEHA is considered a member.  There are not any membership dues; however, there is a small seminar fee to cover lunch and other seminar expenses.

If you are currently not a member, but have similar objectives as SWMEHA and want to be more involved and informed about your profession, please contact a SWMEHA board member to be placed on the mailing list.  Also, should you have ideas for pertinent seminar topics, or have any questions in general, please feel free to contact SW MEHA at SouthwestMEHA@gmail.com.
