Northern Michigan Environmental Health Association

The Northern Michigan Environmental Health Association consists of the upper 33 counties in the northern Lower Peninsula.  Those 33 counties house 9 different district/local health departments, the northern State offices of DEQ and MDA and a handful of business members.  The past few years have had little activity for NMEHA, with only a couple of meetings and a relatively low turnout.   April 2006 was our latest conference, which was held at Coyle’s in Houghton Lake and had 33 participants.  The 4 different guest speakers covered topics on meth labs, mold abatement, and septage hauling, and were well received by all participants.

Currently, NMEHA board consists of only two seats, President and Secretary/Treasurer and both offices were filled with newcomers during the past meeting.  We would like to welcome Rebecca Krzyzanowski from the Central Michigan District Health Department as our new President and Victoria Weitzel from District Health Department #10 as our Secretary/Treasurer.  Membership is always open to anyone; typically by attending a meeting or letting one of our board members know that you are interested in membership.   In the past 4-5 years membership dues have not been collected and we would like to continue this trend as long as possible, however a nominal fee for attendance at future meetings may be required.  Again, NMEHA is open to everyone, you do not have to reside or work in northern Michigan in order to become a member or attend a meeting.

The future goal of the northern region is to offer more conferences per year, which will include food CEUs for attendance.   Hopefully, by broadening our topics we can increase our membership and attendance at these conferences.  If you have any ideas or comments we welcome all communications.  Our board members and northern representative to MEHA can be reached at the following:
