About MEHA
The
Michigan Environmental Health Association (MEHA) is a volunteer,
non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of health through
management of the environment. We provide our membership with forums
of exchange and access to information relating to environmental
health issues. MEHA promotes high standards in the environmental
health profession and strives for recognition as a scientific group
that provides services and protection for the general welfare of
the public. MEHA advocates the registration and licensing of its
members.
MEHA
membership consists of over 750 professionals throughout the State
of Michigan. We are employed in local, district and state government,
within private industries, institutions, colleges and universities.
Members
influence environmental health policies through the on-going work
of various committees. MEHA represents the membership on state government
task forces, rule development and planning committees.
MEHA
offers a variety of conferences every year. The Annual Education
Conference (AEC) is held every spring. In addition to the AEC, members
can attend the Food Protection Conference and Groundwater Conferences
during the fall. A Wastewater Conference is provided the first of
every year. The Swimming Pool and Recreational Waters Conference
is provided in the spring, just prior to the swimming season.
Membership
applications can be obtained on-line or by contacting the business
office at (517) 485-9033.
Do
you know of a MEHA member who has retired?
If
so, they may be eligible for "Emeritus Membership." You
can submit that member's name and bio to the Executive Board and
request their membership change from Active to Emeritus status.
Remember, Emeritus members do not pay dues and have the same privileges
as an Active member.
According
to our Constitution and By-laws, to be eligible you must be a MEHA
member for a minimum of 10 years and have worked in the profession
at least 20 years but are retiring from the EH professional service
on account of age or disability. Reciprocity may be granted for
documented service in other affiliates of NEHA or IAFP.
